4x4 Gear

One thing you will need to ensure that your 4x4 vehicle is performing at its full capacity is a lift kit. There are two types of lift kits: body lifts and suspension lifts. These devices lift either the suspension or the body of the vehicle. Once the lift kit is utilized, taller tires can also be used. Many 4x4 vehicles have some kind of lift kit already installed, but not all of them.

Other parts that are vital to your 4x4 are coil springs and leaf springs. Part of the suspension system, these are designed to keep tires firmly on the ground. These can come in just the front, or in both the front and the rear. The best configuration for you will depend on how you use your vehicle.

Similarly, dampeners are meant to dissipate the energy absorbed by coil springs, which again helps keep the vehicle level. Gear like this is important; if properly installed, the passenger should remain fairly steady when going over bumps in the road. However, without these pieces of gear, safety concerns increase dramatically.

As always, if you have questions, consult an expert if you are curious about what gear your 4x4 might need. This can be done either in your local automotive shop, or through online research.
